Cannabidiol (CBD) Oil May Help Relieve Anxiety
Continued research into CBD and anxiety, shows promising signs that CBD oil may relieve anxiety.
CBD oil has proven to be effective against anxiety in multiple trials. It is thought to work with a brain receptor called CB1. While eExactly how CBD affects CB1 is not fully understood, it is believed to affect serotonin signals. WebMD explains the how serotonin acts as a neurotransmitter, and how a serotonin imbalance affects mental health and its link to anxiety and depression.
Reduced Anxiety Levels
A human study on CBD and its effects on social anxiety disorder (SAD) was published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology in 2011. Participants given an oral dose of 400 milligrams of CBD experienced reduced anxiety levels compared to those taking a placebo.
Another study, published in the Permanente Journal in 2019, demonstrates reduced symptoms of anxiety in those treated with CBD. Here, a group of 47 adults took a 25mg dose of CBD daily over a three month period.
This dose, although lower than what has been used in similar studies, proved effective in anxiety reduction. Anxiety scores decreased rapidly, with sustained results over the course of the trial. With 79% of participants whitnessing decreased anxiety during the first month.
Sustained Results
Furthermore, as with the findings from the Heroin Addiction Study, benefits from CBD oil continued after treatment was stopped.
